Khumalo and Roberts: Round 11 at Bryanston Library
Fred Khumalo and Suresh Roberts are at it again! Yes, these two “rivals” will be reading together at the Bryanston Library in two days’ time, fuelling speculation that a truce is on the cards. The event, hosted by Vulindlela Communications, through its social responsibility programme, VC Netwox Book Club, will take place at 12.30 pm and is free and open to the public.
Roberts will read from his biography of Nadine Gordimer, No Cold Kitchen, whilst Khumalo will read from his memoir, Touch My Blood. Both men will sign their books which will be on sale on the day at a 10% discount off the retail price.
These two authors previously read together at the Joburg Library, shortly after Roberts lost his defamation case against the Sunday Times. In this round, Roberts’ attempt to dislodge Khumalo by using psychological warfare, through taunts and snide remarks about Khumalo, his bosses and the media in general, came to very little. A cool Khumalo refused to take the bait and instead, focussed his attention on his book.
It remains to be seen what the second round holds for Bryanston Library patrons. I personally think this event will be more about books and very little to do with personalities and we will again see a much more likeable Mr Roberts.
The two men’s appearance is part of the Club’s ongoing series of readings formed two years ago, with the aim of promoting original works of South African authors.
See you there!
